Help is available! One of the most important things that you personally can do to protect and improve your health and those of others around you is to stop using tobacco products. It is difficult and may take several attempts, but many have succeeded and improved their quality of life!

As of 2012, the Center for Disease Control (C.D.C.) reported that 18.1% of all U.S. adults 18 years and older (42.1 million people) smoke cigarettes. Each day, more than 3,200 people under 18 years old start smoking and every day, an estimated 2,100 youth and young adult occasional smokers become daily cigarette smokers! If they looked at the fact that in 2011 the adult smokers who wanted to stop was 68.9%, they might not have started!

Did you know? Per the C.D.C., tobacco smoke contains a deadly mix of more than 7,000 chemicals; hundreds are toxic, and about 70 can cause cancer. Tobacco smoking increases the risk for serious health problems, numerous diseases, and death.

People who stop smoking greatly reduce their risk for disease and premature death. Although the health benefits are greater for people who stop at earlier ages, quitting is beneficial at all ages.

1-800-QUIT-NOW (1-800-784-8669) is a free telephone support service that can help individuals who want to stop smoking or using tobacco.
